In these times of economic downturn, The Rose Garden Upscale Store, a neighborhood store located at 841 W. Davis Street, Dallas, Texas 75208, serves two important purposes: (1) provides high quality merchandise such as slightly worn clothing for women, men and children, accessories, furniture and home décor at modest prices that are affordable to members of the local community, and (2) provides a resale training school with on-the-job training for participants where they learn and practice sales, merchandizing,marketing, customer service and commercial display for retail enterprises.

The women in the 2000 Roses training program are also introduced to real experiences in the world of work in the production, preparation and repair of items for The Rose Garden.  They learn how to make candles, design jewelry, sew curtains and draperies, design, repair and sew clothing and repair and improve the home furnishings that are donated to the re-sale store.  Most recently, Zenology not only donated equipment to produce specialty soaps but is also writing a curriculum which they will use to teach the women at the Rose Garden soap-making.

With the addition of the second floor work room, the women will expand their skills to include basic computer programs and will have an important work space for their sewing and repair training classes and services.

The Rose Garden has such a robust procurement system in place for merchandise, staffed by 2000 Roses residents and clients, that it is able to share its resources with other area rehabilitation programs such as the Way Back House, AIDs Resources – Hillcrest House, Grace Unlimited and ROD.  The Rose Garden provides opportunities to clients from these programs to shop for clothing, household items and furniture as needed, using a pre-negotiated voucher system.

The training for all of the skills offered at the Rose Garden is delivered in 90 to 120 day training sessions, depending upon the abilities of the client.
